Spelling Bee 2018 (BCS event)

Every year, 3rd through 8th grade students at Bullis Charter School have the opportunity to participate in our annual Spelling Bee and possibly local and national ones as well!

There will be an oral competition at the BCS South MPR at 5:00 pm on Thursday, January 11, 2018. The winner of this event will proceed to the KPIX Television Written Semifinal Spelling Bee at the Lawrence Hall of Science on February 10th, 2018. The winner of that bee will proceed to the Oral Final Spelling Bee at KPIX-TV on March 17th, 2018. The champion in this competition then advances to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. in late May.

Students who participate will be responsible for studying words outside of school on their own time. There are many resources available through the official Spelling Bee website and study guides to assist the learning process. We urge participants to study in small groups with each other as a way to practice and prepare.

BCS will operate its portions of the Spelling Bee within the guidelines and regulations of the KPIX Television Spelling Bee and Scripps Spelling Bees so as to best prepare its students.

If your child is interested in participating, please review all the information and resources at the official Scripps National Spelling Bee website. Then, please complete the online registration form by Tuesday, January 2nd @ 4pm. Participants should begin studying immediately.

Please email spellingbee@bullischarterschool.com with any questions regarding this year’s Bee.
